The Hawaiian Comic Book Alliance is a group of self-publishers and industry professionals, working to promote the comic book industry in Hawaii and beyond. We also give support to those interested in all facets of comic book production through our website and Facebook page: www.hawaiiancomicbookalliance.com
The titles from the Hawaii Comic Book Alliance are diverse raging from traditional super heroes, to gothic adventure, to fantasy and family faire, and more. While Doc and Lori Grant sponsored the first official mainland stop for the HCBA, their company Lime Media will be represented by other members of the alliance including Napua Ahina, creator of Lime’s breakout title, Mysterious Things.
Additional Members of the HCBA in attendance to the 2018 Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con include:
*SAM CAMPOS is the unofficial “Godfather” of the HCBA. His creator owned PINEAPPLE MAN set the standard in local publishing in the 1990s where this title routinely challenged the top selling flagship titles from Marvel and DC in the state of Hawaii. Sam passes on his experience and goodwill to a new generation of creators from Hawaii.
*Todd Bernardy who makes his second appearance at Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con, as he tabled in the artist alley at the inaugural event in 2013. He is the creator of Kukui Project and Disco Thunder Groove Bone which he publishes under Mulberry Groove Publishing. He lives in Haiku, Hawaii, with his wife and daughter.
In childhood, Kris turned to drawing was a way of coping with the constant moving of his military family. He is a self-taught artist who now does the layout art for Aumakua: Guardians of Hawaii (produced by Mana Comics), and publishes his own title, Dwarfstar Chronicles under his label, Danger Comics.
Free Isabelo, originally from Oahu, relocated to Las Vegas in 2010. He started a publishing company, Live Free Die Free (LFDF) Comics, to produce creator owned properties, including his own title, The contraptor. In his Steam Royals series, he re-imagines pop culture characters in the steampunk genre. Free is a Marvel/Upper Deck artist and does freelance work for other publishers.
Allen Carter is a freelance artist who publishes his titles, Damn Tourists, Cosmic Force and The Figure-of-Speech Mongoose under Carter Comics. Allen is a regular on the West Coast Convention Circuit
Hawaiian Comic Book Alliance has a 4 booth block on the convention floor located at 107/109; 206/208. Check out their titles, and more importantly check out the stories of the creators too.
